PARKING IS LIMITED SO ARRIVE EARLY:

When we got there initially the parking lot was full. It’s a pretty small lot, which we weren’t initially expecting, so when we finally arrived there we were a bit shocked to see that there were no spots available at all. We kind of hovered around the area, considering whether we should go somewhere else before finally finding a spot in the lot, and securing our visit there.

This was something we did not know beforehand, but we’d DEFINITELY recommend visiting as early to the time the museum opens as you can for this reason. It’s not easy to get a parking spot and there isn’t anywhere else to park nearby, so if you can’t find one, you’re pretty much out of luck until one opens up.

WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES:

Depending on when you go, you may be tempted to wear sandals like I did to walk the grounds inside and around the mansion. The day we went it was pretty hot outside, which is why I wore them. However, there are some areas of castle that are pretty narrow or have spiral stairs to them so I’d recommend wearing more comfortable shoes and staying away from the sandals if you can. I opted not to go up the spiral staircase because I’m pregnant (as I am writing this, I still am), but also because I didn’t feel confident that my shoes wouldn’t give from under me while trying to navigate the staircase. I’d honestly wear sneakers if I went again.

EAT BEFORE YOU ENTER:

If you know you’re going to get hungry during your visit there, definitely eat before you go. There isn’t a cafe or anything of the sort on sight because it is a historic castle, so I’d recommend packing some snacks or drinks if you think you’ll be ravenous throughout your visit.

LOOK OUT THE WINDOW IN THE WOMEN’S BATHROOM:

The castle doesn’t have many windows and one of the few windows in the entire castle is in the women’s bathroom. If you happen to need to use the restroom while there, take some time to glance out the window of the women’s bathroom to get a pretty cool view.
